Bee-utiful Booties

Here are the booties I knit to match the bonnet. I'm so tickled with them. They are just too cute for words. The little bees are my favorite part of this whole design. I've used some organza ribbon for the wings and burned the ends to prevent fraying...

I've got a Bee in my Bonnet

In my ongoing search for cute baby knits I came across the Honey Bee Romper pattern by Marcelline Simonotti. I wasn't familiar with this designer before but we've been in contact since and I was surprised to learn that she is a fellow wool-free knitt...

Glad to See the Back of It!

After what has felt like an eternity, I am happy to say that the back of my acorn cardigan is now complete and boy, am I glad to see the back of it! In case you've forgotten, I'd got about 2/3rds of the back knit when I noticed a mistake in the cable...

Right back where we started from

Years ago, before I was a "real" knitter, a setback like this would have been the end of the story. But I did rip the whole thing out and started over. I'm right back where I discovered my mistake and it's the right size and the cables are...

Sometimes Knitting Makes Me Cry

I had made it this far up the back of my Acorn Trail cardigan. I had (about 4" into it) ripped back the center cabled section and reknit it to correct an error I'd missed right near the start. When I finished the first decrease section I checked...

Not really Knitting the Diagonal Pinstripe Scarf in Cabo

We were on the plane heading to Cabo and I was happily knitting away on my Diagonal Pinstripe Scarf when a horrible realization hit me. The ball of main color yarn I was knitting with (less than a day's worth) was the ONLY ball of main color I had pa...

Plane Knitting and Travelogue

We have just returned from a very quick trip to the French Alps via Geneva. We were at the Club Med, Val Thorens for a ski weekend courtesy of my husband's annual company club trip. The drive to and from the airport offered stunning scenery even befo...

A WIP update

When I first returned to knitting I was a very monogamus knitter, slightly horrified by tales of knitters who had to buy multiple sets of needles because other sets were tied up with WIP's. Stories of large stashes of yarn made no sense to me either...

Something new on the Needles

Florence and I are taking a little time apart. It all started when she pretended I was finished knitting all her stripes -- like 7 stripes were actually 9 and I bought the story hook, line and sinker. Because at a quick glance with my 50+ year old ey...

Black Pearl in Florence

I've finally gotten around to trying out the Black Pearl yarn I bought last fall (pink and grey) and I'm knitting it up into this Florence shawl. So far the stripes are done and I'm starting on the lace border. The Black Pearl yarn has a lovely smoot...

That is This

I started knitting this -- Billowy Delight scarf! The yarn is Anzula Mermaid and it used to be that. The lovely "Just a Whisper" wrap. But it had those pesky tapered ends and they just didn't work for me and I finally admitted to myself tha...

Little Bits of Knitting

I've been working on Bo's wardrobe. Hat, leg warmers, and pants are all done. I've still got his sweater and boots to go. I love making these little bunny clothes. Here in the city we are gearing up for the America's Cup. My neice and I went to watch...

Another Easy Folded Poncho

Well, the Berroco Linsey I purchased a few weeks back is going to become my second Easy Folded Poncho. Love how this yarn is knitting up so far. This time I'm knitting on 4.5mm needles and wow is it knitting up fast -- I'm just about done the first s...

Nine More Days To Gift Day

I'm making good progress on the African Blanket and I think it's possible that I might just finish in time to gift it a week tomorrow. There are still a couple of rows left to join and then I'll have the border pieces to do after that. My mom has bee...

My Cover Story

The shells for the African Adventure Blanket are piling up and I'll soon be ready to do the rest of the joining. However, since this knit is still a secret wedding gift for my nephew and his fiance (and I'm currently staying with my family in Ontario...

What I have joined together

53 shells into this knit and I finally gave in to the rising panic and took a few minutes to figure out how these shells get joined together and more importantly, how long it will take me to do that. Turns out, it's both better and worse than I thoug...

Half way to Crazy!

I've completed 43 shells which is just over half the shells I need for this afghan if I go with the recommended number of 81. Completing the basic shells will put me half-way to the half-way point of this project. The second half involves picking up...

Seams So Simple: Easy Folded Poncho KAL Week 7

So I had sort of been putting off the seaming of this poncho thinking it was going to be this big job and take me hours if not days. Not so. You actually only have one seam (13" long) so it's easy as pie. A nice neat mattress stitch joining two...

Two by Two

So, I'm well on my way with an African Adventure. I took a look at the calendar -- not just the days remaining, but what other things are competing for my time -- and I came up with a plan to knit at least 2 shells a day. The current count is 23 -- b...

Blocked and Blocking: Easy Folded Poncho KAL Week 6

I bound off my linen poncho this week (both ends since I'd done the provisional cast on). I gave it a wee bath (lots of dye in the bath water), and blocked it. The designer suggested the use of blocking wires or in lieu of that to use a lot of pins.
